Thanksgiving 2012 Pictures

I am way behind when it comes to posting pictures on our blog! So, today I decided to share some Thanksgiving pictures with you before Christmas.

For the last four years, our friends Bryan & Tabitha, have let us join their family for Thanksgiving. Jon and I do not have any family here is East Texas, so it is nice to have church friends that take care of us! This year we were slightly unconventional and had mexican food instead. It was so good!!

I posted a bunch of pictures below, so I hope you enjoy them!

Our Marriage Testimony: God Changed Everything

Today, I want to share with a piece of our testimony. Two weeks after Jon and I got married we moved from Oregon to East Texas. Life was so hard as newlyweds and even harder begin away from our family and friends. Jon was in school and we were both working as much as we could to make enough money to get by.

We knew that we needed to find a church that we could call home. We visited lots of different churches, but we could never agree on one that we liked! Have you ever looked for a new church? It's hard. Trying to take everything in to see if that is the body of believers that God wants you to learn and grow with.

It became too much for us. We stopped looking for churches and spent most of our Sunday's sleeping in and/or working. As a result, our marriage suffered for the year and three months that we were not in church.

In, March 2008 everything changed!

Our friend's Russell and Ginger invited us to visit their church. To be honest, they had been inviting us to their church for weeks, but we kept putting it off.

The first Sunday Jon and I went to their church, we did not leave with the overwhelming desire to come back. It was just another church like all the rest that we had visited in town. Jon suggested that we visit one more time. However, this time he wanted us to check out the young married adult Sunday school class.

So, the next Sunday we made our way to church again. This Sunday, everything was different! We got to the young married's class and fell in love with our teacher Ms. Janet immediately. I remember that Ms. Janet told us that she was so glad that we were there! After church, we listen to the Pastor preach his sermon and we were so excited that he based his preaching on God's word!

I am happy to say that this church has become our home church! I love our church and the body of believers that God has surrounded us with! Things in our lives have completely changed, because we have learned to put God first!!

Yesterday, Jon and I celebrated six years of marriage! This is not something that we have done in our own strength!! We have learned to depend on God and be faithful to Him! This kind of obedience has been followed by many blessings, one of them being our daughter Olivia!!

Praise the Lord for the incredible testimony that He has given us!!

Laughter is the Best Medicine

Olivia is starting to laugh and it is one of the most beautiful noises that I have ever heard!! After weeks of hearing her cry, because that was the only form of communication she had, it is exciting to watch/listen to her language develop! She coos and makes wonderful baby sounds. However, nothing fills my heart with more joy than hearing Olivia's laugh!

Speaking of laughter, I wanted to share with you one of the cutest things Olivia did last night!

As you know, I work from home. As a result, I do not get to hold and snuggle with Olivia throughout the day, because I need to work. However, after I am done with my work day I use the time during the evenings to take advantage of all the snuggles and cuddles that she is willing to give me.

This week, I have been an especially needy Mommy and I have not wanted to put her down. I am trying to enjoy Olivia as much as I can while she is still this small!

So, last night I decided to rock Olivia to sleep and let her sleep in my arms. I told Jon a couple times that I needed to go lay her down, so that I could clean up the kitchen and wash the dishes. However, I just could not/would not go lay her down. I needed to hold her.

Even though Jon's been sick he went into the kitchen to wash the dishes for me, so that I could focus on Olivia. I followed Jon into the kitchen so that we could talk while he washed the dishes and I held Olivia.

Before we knew it, Olivia was laughing in her sleep! She was sleeping in my arms and laughing! I busted out in laughter myself, because I had never seen or heard her do this before. Jon came over to see what was so funny. When he realized what was going on, he started laughing himself! Personally, I want to know what it was Olivia was dreaming about, because it must have been pretty funny to make herself laugh out loud like that!

I am so thankful that the Lord has given Olivia to us for this time! She is such a wonderful blessing to us! I pray that the sounds of laughter will fill our home for many more years to come!!

Some Christmas Perspective

Last night, I went out to do some Christmas shopping after I got off work from Weight Watchers. It was one of the most frustrating shopping trips I have ever had! My mission was to finish buying Jon's Christmas presents. You see what I wanted to get Jon for Christmas didn't work out, so I was forced to get something else. However, I didn't know what that "something else" would be.

Giving gifts is one of my love languages. When I buy a present for someone, I want them to know how much I love them when they open their present. However, last night I could not decide what I should get for Jon! I was not satisfied with the decisions I made, but I didn't know what else to get him.

Not only that, but I lost sleep over it as well. I know that you are all thinking that I should not let gifts get to me like this and you are probably right. However, when it is my love language that it easier said than done.

When I was a kid, my Mom would always reassured me that things would look better in the morning after I had gotten some sleep. This is true this morning in this situation as well!

Maybe you have an attitude similar to mine. Let me help put things into perspective for you and me!

Christmas is about Jesus. He IS the reason for this season.

In the gospel of Luke it says, "Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord." (Luke 2:11)

I know that this is a busy time of year and we all have a lot of things to do. But don't let that stop you from remembering the reason we celebrate Christmas.

Are you thankful for this truth today?

If so, take some time (not a lot of time, because I know you don't have it) away from the Christmas chaos and thank God for sending His Son to Earth. Thank Him that we have a reason to celebrate this Christmas holiday! Ask Him to help you to have the right attitude and perspective about this time of year.

Our Weekend

You might have already noticed that I updated our blog title from, Newsham Flight Log to The Newsham Family. The moment Olivia came into our lives, we become a family and I want our blog to reflect this change! Our blog will continue to be for our family and friends living all over the world as you try to stay involved in our lives from a distance. So, here are a few recent things going on in the Newsham family.

{painting with a twist}

This past weekend, Jon watched Olivia for me while I attended a birthday party for my friend Amanda. Amanda loves painting, so naturally her birthday party was at Painting with a Twist. I have never gone painting like this before, but it was so much fun! I can't wait to do this again. What do you think of my first painting?

Rolling, Rolling, Rolling

I think it would be appropriate if I gave our blog a new title, "Olivia Highlights". Since this little girl came into our lives, she is the only thing I want to blog about! So, in keeping with our new blog title here's another milestone that Olivia reached today.

Drumroll please...

Olivia rolled over!

Olivia's first picture after rolling over!!

Olivia might have rolled over when she was first born, but it was not anything intentional so I really don't remember it.  However, since before Thanksgiving Olivia has been strong enough to roll onto her side. She has been so close to rolling over so many times!

As Olivia's Mom, I knew that she could roll over. Over the last few weeks I have found myself trying to dangle every toy we have in her face to see if that would entice her to finally reach this milestone. However, last week God convicted me of this type of behavior.

God showed me that there is a difference between being pushy and being encouraging. With Olivia, I had begun to get pushy and frustrated that she had not rolled over yet. However, after God convicted me, I began to let it go. I told Olivia that I was sorry and asked her to forgive me. I explained that I would not try pushing her like this again and that she could roll over whenever she was ready.

Today, Olivia was ready!

Olivia spent most of the morning laying on her side and I tried to just leave her alone. However, this afternoon during my lunch break, I sat next to Olivia. It only took a few minutes before Olivia had completely rolled over!

I screamed in excitement and scared Olivia so badly that she almost started crying. Oops!

I am so thankful that God has made it possible for me to work from home, so that I can be there to celebrate these special moments with Olivia! I am also thankful that God taught me this lesson, so that I can continue to encourage Olivia throughout her life!
