No More Shame

"The ultimate purpose in marriage is not to make us happy, but to glorify God."
- Nancy Leigh DeMoss

Recently, God has been teaching me that His timing is so much better than mine. Yesterday, my church recognized couples who have been married for more than 40 years!! It was an honor to be there and celebrate with the couples in our church that have reached this amazing milestone!! On the same day, our Pastor started a new series called, "Seven Signs of a Solid Marriage (Part 1)". If you would like to listen to this sermon please click here to visit our church's website.

Both of these things would not seem like a big deal to a normal person. However, for me this celebration and sermon series confirmed that God is taking care of me now matter what!!

What am I talking about? Let me try to explain.

A month or two ago, Jon and I had a pretty bad argument. Harmful words were spoken and feelings were hurt. At the end, I told Jon that if we fought like this one more time, we were going to go to counseling. Jon's response was completely unexpected, because he reminded me that I said the same thing the last time we had a bad argument.

That was the last straw for me.

The next morning, after some research, I called a Christian counselor in the area. Ever since, we've been meeting with our counselor every other week. As we told the counselor, we are not on the verge of divorce. However, there are things that we need to work on to make our marriage better. So, with the help of our counselor we have decided to work on building our communication skills, because that is where we need the most help.

For weeks, I have been so nervous that someone would find out that we were going to a counselor. It is silly, but honestly I have not wanted anyone to know about this. I was afraid that if people knew they would judge us or assume that we are about to get a divorce. What I forgot is that it is Satan who likes to keep things secret and hidden!!

Yesterday, the Lord freed me from the shame and embarrassment of seeing a counselor. One day, I want to be able to celebrate 40 years of marriage with Jon!! However, we are never going to get there if we ignore minor problems that are taking place right now.

The other reason that I am being open about this is, because maybe someone out there needs to know that they are not the only one struggling to have a good marriage. Are you going through a rough patch? Do you feel like throwing in the towel? Find a friend and/or counselor that you can talk with to help you work through some of your own issues, before giving up!!

Please keep us in your prayers as we continue to meet with our counselor.

Newsham Baby Number Two

I have been DYING to let you in on a secret for weeks!! I am pregnant!! Baby Newsham number two is on the way!!

Jon and I wanted our babies to be close in age, but not quite this close. We were both surprised by how quickly we became pregnant with our second child. This is different from what we had planned, but we are thankful for how the Lord is blessing our family!! Honestly, God's plans are always better than mine!!

One week ago, Jon, Olivia, and me headed to the first doctor's appointment for baby #2. We saw our precious child on the ultrasound screen and were overwhelmed with thankfulness at the new life growing inside me. We also heard our baby's heartbeat, which was very strong.

Overall, I have been doing well. I have not thrown up, but been queasy when I do not eat or when I let my stomach get too empty. I have also been very tired. With work, Olivia, moving, unpacking, and all of my other daily tasks, I have not had energy to do much of anything these days. (This also explains my lack of blog posts.) We put Olivia to bed and I head to bed shortly after she has gone down. My doctor said that once I get past my 1st trimester it should get better, so I am hopeful that I will feel like myself again soon.

In case you are wondering, I was just 9 pounds away from my goal weight when I found out that I was pregnant. This is so frustrating! However, I am confident that I will be able to continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle while pregnant with this baby and will be able to lose all of my weight after our new baby arrives in late December.

Olivia Eight Month Update

Olivia Eight Month Highlights

1. Olivia loves reading books and listening to audiobooks. Right now, her favorite book is called, "Colors". It was given to Olivia by Dr. Bagnell at her six month check up. We read it multiple times a day!

2. Olivia ate Chick-fil-a chicken, ice cream, and waffle fries for the very first time. It was not all in one sitting, but she is learning to eat food on her own. I always have to remind her to "chew and swallow", because she gets too much food in her mouth at one time.

3. While Michelle was visiting us, she was trying to teach Olivia her ABC's. Michelle also decided to work on some phonics with Olivia as well. Olivia's favorite song is called, Phonics Song 2 on YouTube. Olivia can watch is over and over again. As a result, we all have it memorized after just two weeks of listening to this song!

4. Olivia is learning to turn the pages when we read books. Her first instinct is to put books in her mouth. On a regular basis, I have to remind her that we do not eat books. However, it is exciting to watch her learn how to do something new and be able to turn the pages all by herself!

5. Olivia now eats Cheerios and she loves them! She is so independent and gets very excited when she gets to feed herself.

6. Olivia loves playing with blocks. Either Jon or myself, build her tall towers which she loves to knock down to the ground.

7. Olivia is ticklish! She is ticklish under her arms, on her hip, and on her belly. It's so hard to keep myself from tickling her all the time, because I love to hear her laugh.

8. Please pray for us and Olivia. Pray that God will get a hold of her heart at an early age. Pray that we will be wise as we raise her in the fear of the Lord.

Olivia Seven Month Update

I am "late" getting this blog post out too, but I hope you enjoy it anyway. I think that I say this every month, but I cannot believe that Olivia is already seven months old! Where has the time gone? Olivia has grown and changed so much in such a short period of time. Here are some of the fun highlights that took place this past month.

Olivia's Seven Month Highlights

1. Olivia is officially crawling, pulling herself up, and walking along the couch or anything else she can reach. I wasn't ready for her to do all of these things so quickly, but there is nothing stopping this girl. When Olivia sets her mind on something she can do it! It's amazing to watch her learn how to do things.

2. Olivia got her second tooth!

3. Olivia went on her first airplane ride with Daddy!! It was so much fun for Jon to be able to share his love and passion for flying with Olivia. Please click the link, to read more about Olivia's First Airplane Ride.

4. Olivia is eating all different kinds of baby food. She loves fruit, but hates all kinds of vegetables! Her favorite snack are the Gerber Graduates Lil' Crunchies, Mild Cheddar.

5. Olivia is Ms. Independent and likes to do things on her own. Olivia wants to feed herself, put her pacifier in her mouth, stand, walk, crawl, eat, and more all by herself! Don't get me wrong she wants to know that we are there watching, but she wants to do it herself.

6. Olivia rode in a shopping cart for the first time. I completely forgot to bring in the shopping cart cover, so she was trying to eat the basket the entire time that we were at Walmart. On top of that, random woman told Olivia that I need to get her a shopping cart cover! I tried to explain that I already had one, but I don't think she believed me!

7. We had our first family getaway over Easter weekend! It was a relaxing and fun time away from home. We stayed with our friend's at their family's lake house! Olivia did great and even took quick dip in the hot tub for the very first time, which she loved!

Please continue to pray for Olivia and that she would learn to love Jesus and give her life to Him!

Easter 2013 in Pictures

I know that I am a little late getting Easter pictures posted, but that just goes to show you the kind of week I had. Life is busy and only seems to be getting busier! So, while Olivia is napping, I am going to use a few moments of my peace and quiet to post new pictures on our blog!

Olivia's Easter Goody Bag

Olivia is such a happy girl!

She looked beautiful in her Easter dress!

Daddy and Olivia were matching (not intentionally). Our girl was only interested in chewing on the Easter eggs.

Both of us were dressed up for Sunday morning!

Olivia just showing off her dress again, because it is so cute!

At this point, Olivia was done taking pictures and she let us know it!

Thankfully, I was able to get one last (good) shot of Olivia and Daddy.

I hope that you all had a wonderful Easter weekend!!
