Walking Her Home

As I told you yesterday, I enjoy a good love story. I guess that's what happens when you are a hopeless romantic. If you missed the story of Gordon and Norma Yeager please click here.

If you have never heard this song I hope you will listen to it, because it goes right along with what I was talking about yesterday. You might be struggling in your marriage and it looks hopeless, but let me just remind you that nothing is impossible with God! God is walking with you through this situation and He will see it through! I pray that this song blesses you!

Have a great weekend!

Walking Her Home
By, Mark Schultz

Looking back
He sees it all
It was her first date the night he came to call

Her dad said son
Have her home on time
And promise me you'll never leave her side
He took her to a show in town
And he was ten feet off the ground

(Chorus)
He was walking her home
And holding her hand
Oh the way she smiled it stole the breath right out of him
Down that old road
With the stars up above
He remembers where he was the night he fell in love
He was walking her home

Ten more years and a waiting room
At half past one
And the doctor said come in and meet your son

His knees went weak
When he saw his wife
She was smiling as she said he's got your eyes

And as she slept he held her tight
His mind went back to that first night

(Chorus)
He was walking her home
And holding her hand
Oh the way she smiled it stole the breath right out of him
Down that old road
With the stars up above
He remembers where he was the night he fell in love
He was walking her home

He walked her through the best days of her life
Sixty years together and he never left her side

A nursing home
At eighty-five
And the doctor said it could be her last night
And the nurse said Oh
Should we tell him now
Or should he wait until the morning to find out

But when they checked her room that night
He was laying by her side

Oh he was walking her home
And holding her hand
Oh the way she smiled when he said this is not the end
And just for a while they were eighteen
And she was still more beautiful to him than anything
He was walking her home
He was walking her home

Looking back
He sees it all
It was her first date the night he came to call

A Real Life "Notebook" Love Story

I’m sure that many of us have seen the movie “The Notebook” based off of the novel by, Nicholas Sparks. The Notebook is one of my favorite movies, because it shows us an example of real true love, the kind that only seems possible in fairy tales. I have told Jon many times that I do not know what I would do without him and in the end I want our lives together to end just like “The Notebook”.

I’m extremely practical in my thinking and realize that my life with Jon will most likely end in a different way than “The Notebook”. However for one real couple in Iowa, they got what many girls only dream about!! I was truly inspired to learn about the real life “Notebook” kind of love story of Gordon and Norma Yeager!! The Yeager’s were married 72 years and died side by side, hand in hand this week. To read more about Gordon and Norma Yeager please click here.

Gordon and Norma Yeager

My parents announced that they were separating nine months after Jon and I got married. My parents separation and divorce took a great emotional toll on me and my marriage. Many people like me come from a broken home. We are children of divorced parents and the thought or hope for true love seems unattainable.

In our broken world I am so thankful for this real life story which shows that love for a lifetime is still possible!! Praise the Lord for a real life example like the Yeager's!! I hope that Jon and I can continue to be faithful to one another and God, so that we will have an awesome love story to pass on to others.

I’ve written a little bit about our own love story if you would like to read it click here.

Always Busy

source

When people ask how I’m doing, I always respond by telling them that I am busy. I began to notice the pattern in my response and it bothered me. Why is it that we always seem to be busy? In our home busyness is like a constant state of chaos that we cannot seem to escape!

Recently, I have made a list of all the things that I am busy doing, so that I could find a way to cut something out. I have date nights with Jon, work, Sunday school, choir, church, Weight Watchers, Bible study, and more. As I began to review this list, I knew that it would be impossible to choose which activity I would no longer be involved in. In the end, because I have been so serious about cutting things out of my schedule, I have not been attending choir consistently in the last three weeks. I am so bad at cutting things out of my schedule that I have still been going to choir when I don’t feel overwhelming busy!

I desperately need balance in my life! All of the things that I am busy doing are good. However, are there other things in my schedule that I am busy doing, that take time away from what God has called me to be involved in.

Yesterday in church I was encouraged by Dr. Creamer who explained that as a Christian God has given us a new purpose, the Great Commission.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” – Acts 1:8

This life here on Earth is not about me, it is about completing the work that God has called me to do. However, part of this life is taking care of myself. I think that ultimately the Lord has to be the one to bring balance to my schedule.

The author of the devotional below suggests praying and asking God to show you what you need to focus on each day. I think that I am going to begin doing that this day.

I hope and pray that God will show me how to use my time wisely and what things I should be busy doing.

Because I have been thinking about busyness for the last several weeks, I could really relate to the Proverbs 31 devotional that I received this morning. To read it click here Full Busy vs. Empty Busy.

Flashback Friday: When Jon Met Grandma

Today's flashback takes us to the weekend that Jon met my Grandma Bartholomew! Grandma Bartholomew is my Mom's Mom. Jon and I got engaged in June 2006 and that summer we took a road trip to visit my Grandma. At the time I was attending Multnomah University and living in Portland, Oregon. My Grandma lives just three hours away in the Eugene/Springfield area of Oregon.

It was so nice for the two of us to go down and visit with my Grandma. She even took us to her church so that we could visit and look around. I love her so much and I wish that we did not live so far away, so that we could see her more often.

Victory in Jesus

source

It has been a weird week. I have tried multiple times to write a blog post that would explain what is on my mind, but it has not worked. So, I am letting myself off the hook. I will write a blog post when I have a better understanding about what God is doing in my heart. Instead, I want to share a song with you that really encouraged me! I hope that it does the same for you!

"But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." - 1 Corinthians 15:57

Words and Music by E.M. Bartlett

I heard an old, old story,
How a Savior came from glory,
How He gave His life on Calvary
To save a wretch like me;
I heard about His groaning,
Of His precious blood's atoning,
Then I repented of my sins
And won the victory.

Chorus
O victory in Jesus,
My Savior, forever.
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him
And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory,
Beneath the cleansing flood.

I heard about His healing,
Of His cleansing pow'r revealing.
How He made the lame to walk again
And caused the blind to see;
And then I cried, "Dear Jesus,
Come and heal my broken spirit,"
And somehow Jesus came and bro't
To me the victory.

Chorus
O victory in Jesus,
My Savior, forever.
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him
And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory,
Beneath the cleansing flood.

I heard about a mansion
He has built for me in glory.
And I heard about the streets of gold
Beyond the crystal sea;
About the angels singing,
And the old redemption story,
And some sweet day I'll sing up there
The song of victory.

Chorus
O victory in Jesus,
My Savior, forever.
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him
And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory,
Beneath the cleansing flood.

Halloween Costume Ideas

Fall is my favorite season! Unfortunately, the state of Texas has not yet realized that it is Fall. However I am hopeful that the weather will begin to change soon.

Every October our Sunday school class has a Pumpkin Carving Party. We ask couples to come in costume to try and win prizes for the best dressed. We have a very creative Sunday school class and people always come up with great costume ideas! To check out previous blog posts about this click here and here.

Each year I enjoy searching for the perfect costume for Halloween. This year I have found some awesome Halloween costume ideas on Pinterest! (Just as a side note, if you are not on Pinterest I recommend that you try it. I am always able to find great ideas and inspiration for any occasion.)

Flashback Friday: X-Men First Class Date Night

Jon and I had this date night a couple of weeks ago, but I am just now getting around to blogging about it! I have tried to be more intentional about planning fun date nights with Jon at least once a month. We both have busy schedules and I want to be able to make the most out of the time that we get to spend together. Not to mention I love dating my man! I also really enjoy planning date nights and sharing them with you so here we go.

{Inspiration}
The inspiration for this date night came from the movie X-Men First Class. Jon bought this movie a few weeks ago, however we hadn't even taken it out of the packaging yet! I thought that this would be a great theme for an at home date night. I looked at The Dating Divas website for ideas, but they did not have a superhero x-men date...bummer! I ended up making up this date all by myself.

{The Invite}
I sent the invite via email, because Jon was at work. I took several different invitation ideas that I found on Pinterest and adapted them to meet my needs.

{Dinner}
The theme of the even was X-Men, so for dinner we made a "mutant" meal. What exactly is that? Well I searched through my pantry until I found something to transform into dinner. We had pasta, sauce, and pizza dough bread sticks.

I also made Crystal Light to give us an extra dose of energy!

I used this recipe and adapted it to make the pizza bread sticks.

They turned out great!

I work hard to make dinner while Jon finished up his work.

The Iceman was even nice enough to chill our glasses for us.

After Jon got home from work we were able to kick off our night with dinner!

{Art Project}
Before we watched the movie I thought is would be fun if we each drew the #1 superhero power we wish we had.

If I could have any superhero power it would be to FLY!

If Jon could have any superhero power, it would be to control the weather!

{The Movie}
We had a great date night and we both really enjoyed this movie!!
